Locked in a 15-year battle with his problem-solving compulsion, Ben searches for ways to put it to good use. An entrepreneur at heart, efficiency passes for his religion.
Ben has been working with web-facing applications for the past 15 years, and has worked with a wide variety of environments, technologies, and problem domains including financial applications, case management, content management and publishing, medical transcription, network security, language education, and image processing. He operates under the principle that an understanding of a broad range of platforms, languages, and frameworks allows for the flexibility to choose the most elegant and efficient solution for a particular problem.
At Relevance, Ben tends to anchor projects for long stretches, serving in both a leadership and archaeological role. His knowledge of operations, unix, and database systems is often referenced by other teams. Currently focused in ruby, and continuing to expand into clojure, mobile application development, and scalability concerns.
In his free time Ben is an avid outdoorsman, enjoys playing stringed instruments badly, and cooks delicious meals. He is a member of the leadership committee of the Charlotte Ruby Users Group, and assists in the cultural development of the tech startup community in Charlotte, NC however and whenever he can.
